From the series: ‘Reflections from Tarim’

Private swimming pool

Tarim, though modest and ancient, is a sacred city filled with light and wisdom. Despite its simplicity, it holds countless blessings. Knowledge flows through every corner of this valley and what makes Tarim truly special is that its people live by the knowledge they learn.

Here, families have many opportunities to nurture love, closeness, and spiritual connection. Although men and women are segregated yet this doesn’t take away the possibilities of spending quality time in and outside of the home. They attend gatherings, Friday prayers, spend meaningful time at home between lessons and prayers, or even book private swimming pools for peaceful family time (we did and it was a much loved experience for all, something we want to make time for regularly inshallah).

Alhamdulillah, there is an abundance of barakah in time here. Families are able to slow down, reconnect, and truly implement what they learn in their classes. Although we are living in the end of times and time is passing rapidly everywhere, Tarim remains a place of stillness. A valley filled with serenity and divine blessing.

In the West, however, life moves differently. Parents are often occupied with work, children are busy with school, and the family unit rarely shares true quality time. We are constantly bombarded with distractions that steal our time from our Lord and our loved ones, leaving many feeling disconnected and unfulfilled.

But alhamdulillah, Tarim stands as a forward-thinking society; not because of modern innovation, but because it follows the timeless teachings of our beloved Prophet ﷺ. The people understand that when the family structure is strong, the entire society thrives. But when the foundation weakens, everything else begins to crumble.

Tarim holds a unique kind of beauty that touches every heart — whether young or old. For children, it’s a place where faith and joy intertwine; where learning the Qur’an and the sacred texts of the Deen from great scholars becomes part of their daily life. They grow up in an environment filled with light, surrounded by knowledge, remembrance, and the company of the Awliya of Allah. They pray behind these righteous souls, receiving their duas, and being nurtured under their gentle watch. Beyond lessons, children enjoy simple moments of connection: Spending precious time with their parents in blessed gatherings, walking to the masjid together, sharing meals, or swimming in serene, private settings all of which strengthen the bond between hearts.

For adults, Tarim offers a refuge from the noise of the world. A slower, more intentional way of living where time feels blessed and the heart finds rest. The simplicity of life, the presence of sacred knowledge, and the warmth of community create an atmosphere that nourishes the soul at every age. In Tarim, both parents and children find not only peace, but purpose. Living in harmony with what they learn and what they believe.

Each person here is nurtured with sound knowledge, strong faith, and a deep spiritual grounding. When one is connected to Allah, their inner needs are fulfilled and from that fullness, they are able to pour love, service, and goodness into those around them and the Ummah at large.

Until next time….

Peace be with you
