A Mother’s Reminder of Allah’s mercy
From the series: ‘Reflections from Tarim’

The World Is Temporary but Mercy Is Eternal
The beautiful thing about this world is that Allah has promised us it isn’t forever. Nothing here lasts. Neither joy nor pain. Because forever belongs to the next world.
So when we face illness, heartache, or trials, the words of Allah and the comfort of our beloved Prophet ﷺ remind us that everything here is temporary, and that even pain has a purpose.
Surah Ash-Sharh (94:5-6):
“For indeed, with hardship [will be] ease. Indeed, with more hardship [will be] more ease.”
Surah Al-Tawbah (9:40):
“Do not grieve; indeed Allah is with us.”
Surah Al-Ankabut (29:64):
“And this worldly life is not but amusement and diversion; but the hereafter is the home of [eternal] life, if only they knew”.
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he receives from a thorn, but that Allah expiates some of his sins for that.
The Mother’s Test of Patience
It’s easier to practice patience when the difficulty touches us. But when it is our children who suffer, patience feels heavier. The heart of a mother trembles, wanting to take away her child’s pain to exchange their discomfort for our own if we could.
Yet, Allah continues to show us, again and again, that his timing is perfect. The very hardship that once made our hearts ache eventually fades, replaced by relief so gentle we almost forget the impatience we once felt.
“Allah never tires of helping us even when we tire of imagining the relief.”
A Rash, A Reminder
Recently, my baby developed a rash that spread across his tiny body. His delicate skin turned red and dry, and I remember thinking, Is this how it will be?
I tried everything from moisturising, eliminating possible allergens, consulting doctors etc. Outwardly, I seemed calm, tending to him with steady hands. But inwardly, my patience was thinning. My mind wandered toward worry, struggling to picture the end of this small test.
And yet, before long, Allah granted relief. Slowly, his skin softened, the redness faded, and healing appeared almost quietly as if to say, “See? I was here all along.”
Grateful for the Giver of Relief
‘Alhamdulillah ‘ala kulli haal’ all praise is due to Allah in every circumstance.
I was reminded once again of His endless mercy and how He never tires of helping us, even when our hearts falter or our thoughts grow impatient. He knows the depth of a mother’s love, her silent du‘as, and her worrying heart.
This test came to teach me to always rely on Allah and never doubt his relief in times of difficulty.
Truly, Allah’s help always arrives not when we expect it, but exactly when we need it most.
Have you encountered a difficult test that seemed endless yet surprised when relief arrived quicker than you thought? I’d love to hear your thoughts….
Peace be with you
